Suffolk Credit Union Supports Canine Companions

Suffolk Credit Union has deepened its partnership with Canine Companions, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing service dogs to people with disabilities, through a series of volunteer initiatives, fundraising efforts, and event sponsorships.

The relationship began earlier this year when Suffolk Credit Union employees participated in a volunteer day at the nonprofit’s facility. The experience, which included cleaning kennels, playing with the pups, and learning about the training process, offered staff an inside look at how these remarkable dogs transform lives. Soon after, employees were invited to attend the Canine Companions Northeast Region Graduation, where they witnessed the emotional moment service dogs were matched with the people they would go on to assist.

Building on that foundation, Suffolk Credit Union recently sponsored DogFest Long Island as the Pick of the Litter Sponsor and launched a member donation-matching campaign. From August 26th to September 6th, the credit union matched every member donation dollar-for-dollar, raising over $5,000 for Canine Companions’ mission. DogFest Long Island, held September 13th at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa Park, celebrated Canine Companions’ 50th anniversary with agility courses, costume contests, service dog demonstrations, and more—drawing families, dog lovers, and supporters from across the region.

“Partnering with Canine Companions allows us to support individuals and families whose lives are transformed by the companionship and independence these remarkable service dogs provide,” said Laura Racioppi, Vice President of Corporate and Community Partnerships. “We’re proud to continue growing this partnership through volunteerism, financial support, and community involvement.”
