Suffolk Credit Union Honors Community Service and Nonprofits

Suffolk Credit Union today announced Suffolk Salutes, a summer-long celebration of the individuals and organizations whose service, compassion and leadership help Long Island communities thrive. The initiative kicked off in May with the credit union sponsoring appreciation events during national civic observances, including Nurses Week, EMS Week, Armed Forces Week and Police Week. Grounded in Suffolk Credit Union’s core community pillars of Education, Healthcare, Public Safety and Military Service, the campaign honors frontline workers, first responders and others who serve the community.

“At a time when communities are looking for reasons to come together, Suffolk Salutes shines a spotlight on the people and organizations whose everyday acts of service strengthen Long Island,” said Michele Dean, President & CEO, Suffolk Credit Union. “From educators and healthcare workers to first responders, law enforcement professionals and veterans, these local heroes deserve to be recognized. Suffolk Salutes is our way of saying thank you and inviting the community to join us.”

As part of the initiative, Suffolk Credit Union is inviting the community to nominate local heroes, including neighbors, colleagues, mentors and local leaders. One winner in each category — Veteran/Military, Law Enforcement, Healthcare, Education and First Responders (Fire/EMS) — will receive a $1,000 award. Five nominees from each category will also be honored at a special Suffolk Credit Union-sponsored concert at Mulcahy’s on October 3, where honorees will receive on-stage recognition and Suffolk Salutes swag for themselves and a guest.

Community Fundraising Campaign

Now through September, Suffolk Credit Union will host a fundraising campaign benefiting key nonprofit and community partners across its core pillars, including:

• Suffolk Community College Foundation
• Catholic Health – St. Catherine of Siena Hospital
• Firefighters Charitable Foundation
• Suffolk County Police Athletic League
• Paws of War

Funds raised through Suffolk Salutes will help expand educational opportunities, support healthcare initiatives, assist military veterans and provide resources to first responders and their families. Donations can be made at any Suffolk Credit Union branch.

A Legacy of Service

Suffolk Credit Union’s commitment to service is rooted in its nearly 60-year history. Many of its volunteer board and supervisory committee members have served — or continue to serve — in the military, law enforcement, education, fire service, the United States Coast Guard and the Port Authority, helping shape the credit union’s culture and commitment to those who serve others.

"Service has always been part of Suffolk Credit Union's DNA," said Dean. "Suffolk Salutes is a natural extension of the legacy built by volunteers who have served our country, protected our communities, responded to emergencies and kept our region moving."

Additional events, opportunities to participate and promotional offers will be announced throughout the summer. Visit suffolkcu.org/salutes for complete information.
