Suffolk Credit Union Supports Veterans and Local Families

Suffolk Credit Union continued its long-standing tradition of giving back to the community this Thanksgiving season by supporting multiple holiday food initiatives across Suffolk County. The Credit Union once again participated in the annual Turkeys for Vets event, held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, while also assisting the Suffolk County Police Department’s 7th Precinct during its Annual Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway.

The Turkeys for Vets event, hosted at the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum in West Sayville, served as the centerpiece of Suffolk Credit Union’s holiday outreach. Running from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the event provided free 10–14 pound turkeys and holiday fixings to active-duty military members, veterans, and their families. The giveaway was open to all, regardless of economic need, and items were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year’s program was held in memory of Jamie Atkinson, whose leadership helped build Turkeys for Vets into a meaningful annual tradition. Hosting the event at the Navy SEAL Museum, where Jamie served as a board member, allowed for safer traffic management and helped participants appreciate his contributions to both the Museum and Community Ambulance of Sayville—much of which he did anonymously. Suffolk Credit Union staff and volunteers worked alongside Community Ambulance Company and event organizers to greet families, distribute items, and ensure local service members felt appreciated heading into the holiday.

In addition to Turkeys for Vets, Suffolk Credit Union also assisted the Suffolk County Police Department’s 7th Precinct during its Annual Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway, held on Saturday, November 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the precinct parking lot, 1491 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley. The 7th Precinct serves a broad area of eastern Suffolk County—including Shirley, Mastic, Moriches, Manorville, Ridge, Wading River, and surrounding communities. Credit Union staff and volunteers joined precinct officers to hand out fully prepared Thanksgiving meals to families in need, strengthening bonds between law enforcement and community residents.

“These events reflect the values we hold as a community-focused credit union,” said Laura Racioppi, Vice President of Corporate and Community Partnerships at Suffolk Credit Union. “We are honored to support our veterans, military families, and local residents, and we are grateful for the partnerships that make these initiatives possible. Our commitment to uplifting Long Islanders extends year-round through volunteer efforts, programs, and community partnerships.”
