Suffolk Credit Union Proudly Supports Local Fire Departments with Community Grants

Suffolk Credit Union, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLB NY), proudly continues its commitment to supporting local first responders through the presentation of three $5,000 grants to the Brentwood Fire Department, the Jamesport Fire Department Association, and the Yaphank Fire Department as part of the 2025 FHLB NY Small Business Grant Program.

The FHLB NY Small Business Grant Program provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and community-focused organizations that play a vital role in strengthening neighborhoods across Long Island and the surrounding region. All three fire departments exemplify that mission through their dedication to public safety, outreach, and community support.

The Brentwood Fire Department serves one of the busiest districts on Long Island, covering approximately 24 square miles across Brentwood, North Bay Shore, and Baywood. Responding to an average of 1,500 emergency calls annually, the department’s work is essential to keeping residents safe. The $5,000 grant will help support operational needs and ongoing community programs.

On the East End, Suffolk Credit Union also proudly presented a $5,000 grant to the Jamesport Fire Department Association on October 4, 2025. In addition to providing lifesaving emergency response, the Association is deeply involved in community initiatives — raising funds for scholarships, organizing the annual Santa Run through neighborhood streets, and supporting local families in need.

Suffolk Credit Union also proudly supported the Yaphank Fire Department through the FHLB NY Small Business Grant Program with a 5,000 grant. The department serves the communities of Yaphank and Middle Island and responds to a wide range of emergency calls, including residential fires, highway incidents along the Long Island Expressway, and mutual aid throughout Brookhaven.

Beyond grant support, Suffolk Credit Union also offers exclusive financial benefits to first responders, including mortgage closing cost credits and discounted auto loans — part of the credit union’s ongoing mission to support those who protect and serve their communities.

“Firefighters represent the heart of our communities,” said Micah Schlendorf, Assistant Vice President of Business Development. “Whether they are responding to emergencies, supporting families, or giving back through local events, Suffolk Credit Union is proud to support them every step of the way.”
