Throughout the month of May, Suffolk Credit Union proudly celebrated Suffolk Salutes Month. This month-long initiative reflects the credit union’s ongoing commitment to those who dedicate their lives to serving the Long Island community.
“Suffolk Salutes Month is our way of giving back to those who give so much to our community,” said Laura Racioppi, Vice President of Corporate & Community Partnerships for Suffolk Credit Union. “We are proud to stand behind our friends and neighbors who are also our very own local heroes— educators, nurses, military, law enforcement, and emergency responders— and we remain committed to showing our appreciation in meaningful ways.”
During Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9), Suffolk Credit Union launched a new initiative to support education professionals – both public and private - at all academic levels. The program includes special offers for teachers, administrators, and support staff, such as a closing cost credit on mortgages to help purchase a home in the communities they serve, or an auto loan discount to assist in buying a new or used vehicle for their daily commute as well as transporting their own families.
In honor of National Nurses Week (May 6–12), credit union staff visited St. Catherine of Siena Hospital providing coffee and pastries to hardworking healthcare professionals. In partnership with Catholic Health, Suffolk Credit Union proudly sponsored nursing scholarships to four hospital staff members—each receiving a $500 award to support their continued education and growth in the healthcare field.
For National Police Week (May 11–17), credit union staff deployed as a special Bagel Brigade. Suffolk Credit Union team members delivered fresh bagels to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and Suffolk County Police Department, as a small gesture of appreciation, recognizing their dedication to protecting and serving Long Island.
Additionally, the credit union celebrated National EMS Week (May 18–24) with visits to the Bellport Fire Department and South Country Ambulance. Similarly to National Police Week, SCU delivered treats to thank first responders for their life-saving work.
To wrap up the month, SCU was proud to show its support for those who serve on Memorial Day as the lunch sponsor for The Murph Challenge, an annual fundraiser for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Suffolk Credit Union has been an active supporter of this challenge for the past three years and is proud to be a partner of the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum which honors “the story, sacrifices, and legacies of the Special Operators of Naval Special Warfare Command.”
Though May was heavily focused on honoring these groups, Suffolk Credit Union continues to recognize these local heroes throughout the year by sponsoring events, fundraisers, scholarships, and providing exclusive offers to members of these organizations as an ongoing thank you to the essential services they provide to our Long Island communities.
